Charles and Myrtle Fillmore Awards

The Charles Fillmore and Myrtle Fillmore Awards are given to honor a Unity minister for his or her special contributions toward the work of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. See the award nomination form for qualifications.


Charles Fillmore Award
David McArthur

Rev. David McArthur left the practice of law to become an ordained Unity minister and has led dynamic Unity churches for more than thirty-five years. In addition to roles as the senior minister in Unity churches in Montana, Washington, and California, he has served as a member and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Unity Worldwide Ministries. He has been honored with Unity’s Youth Services Award and as a Hero of Forgiveness by the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance. David also spent seven years as a director and trainer at the world-renowned HeartMath Institute.

He has been a keynote speaker at Unity conventions and conferences and is an author of books and magazine articles. He continues to present his workshops, keynotes, and services throughout the country.


Myrtle Fillmore Award
Linda Spenser

Rev. Linda Spenser made it through ministerial school with the help of generous individuals, mentors, stipends, scholarships, and the opportunity to work in various departments at the Village. She persevered and was ordained in 1978. She quickly was hired and served Unity in Springfield, Illinois, for 10 years, followed by Unity of Bellevue, Washington, for 10 years until 1998. During three years outside of ministry, she served on the staff of a private counseling agency specializing in sex offender treatment. In 2003 she started serving Unity of Santa Barbara, California, and served there until November 2012. She is currently approaching ten years of ministerial service at Unity Skagit Valley in Mt. Vernon, Washington.

Linda says, “After 46 years in ministry, my flame still burns bright and my dedication to serving others is unwavering. Ministry for me is a privilege and an honor. I have been transformed by these teachings and am grateful to share this path of light and hope with every wonderful being I’ve met along the way.”


Charles Fillmore Award
Deborah Frownfelter

Deborah is a licensed Unity teacher and Unity minister ordained in 2006. She has served with Unity Worldwide Ministries in a leadership capacity for 15 years.

During her time at UWM, Deborah has developed a reset of IYOU through an Appreciative Inquiry Summit; a Credentialing Team to harmonize paths and identify clear standards; the Transformation Experience Thriving Ministries Pilot and Enlightened Leaders; Leadership Resource Guides; Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute; Unique Expressions; and Spiritual Explorers. Deborah served on the Academic Governance Council and as adjunct faculty for Unity Institute. She has obtained grants from the John Templeton Foundation. She has spoken and presented workshops at Unity People’s Conventions, regional conferences, and Unity ministries.

Deborah delights in nurturing the gifts of others and facilitating their growth, development, and transformation.

Myrtle Fillmore Award
Myra McFadden


Myra McFadden has served as the senior minister of Unity of Kansas City North, Missouri, since 2011.

Myra has served on the UWM Board of Trustees, participated in a variety of UWM ministry teams, and taught courses in pastoral counseling for UWSI. She has mentored many ministerial students and has created a mentorship program and innovative chaplaincy program within her church community.

Myra is a Stage 3 colon cancer survivor after receiving her diagnosis in 2019. She led her community into a shared experience of health and wholeness by integrating faith and authentic joy throughout her treatment and recovery. A short film by Rev. Jacquie Fernández called, Standing on the Bridge of Faith, documents this journey.



Charles Fillmore Award
Christopher H. Jackson

Chris is a third-generation Unity student with a lifetime of service in the worldwide Unity movement. He is former Executive Vice President of Unity World Headquarters, where he served for twenty-six years until his retirement in 2001.

Chris has been a keynote speaker at Unity events throughout the United States, and in Europe and Mexico. His writings have been featured in Daily Word® magazine and Unity Magazine, and he is a contributing author to the book New Thought for a New Millennium, published by Unity House.

He is the former minister of Unity of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida, and currently serves as senior minister at Unity on the Bay in Miami, Florida.


Myrtle Fillmore Award
Xiomara J. Malagon

Xiomara is from the Dominican Republic (DR). She attended the Ministerial Education Program at Unity School of Christianity as an international candidate and graduated and became ordained in 1999. She returned to DR and served at all the Unity ministries there.

In November 2001, she was hired by the Association of Unity Churches, Inc., as worldwide support coordinator. In this position, she trained, counseled, and coached leaders of Unity National Schools, Association of Unity Leaders, emerging Unity ministries worldwide, and Spanish-speaking ministries in continental USA. She worked remotely from Atlanta, Georgia, from December 2010 until she retired in 2018.

Currently, she serves in the congregational care team at Unity Atlanta, Peachtree Corners, Georgia, offers lectures and workshops at Unity ministries in and outside of the United States, and officiates bilingual wedding ceremonies and other services. Xiomara resides with her daughter Annette and cat Coco in Dunwoody, Georgia.

Pat Williamson
Reverend Pat Williamson is committed to supporting individuals in growth as well as transformation through Unity principles thus empowering them to live as expressions of The God within. His personal mission is to teach and preach these universal Truth Principles so that he may grow spiritually and assist others with their growth.  

Pat serves as senior minister of Unity Minneapolis. Pat is the past chair of the board of Unity Worldwide Ministries and also past chair of the board of Unity World Headquarters at Unity Village. He has served as board liaison to the Field Licensing Ministry Team. He is past chair of the Great Lakes Region Children’s Education Team. Pat currently serves on the Licensing and Ordination Team of Unity Worldwide Ministries.  

Pat’s professional affiliations include the International Conference of Police Chaplains.  Pat is a graduate of Unity Ministerial Executive Institute. Ordained in 1994, he recently celebrated 25 years of field ministry and has served the congregations of Unity Temple on the Plaza, Kansas City, MO, Unity Church on the North Shore, Evanston, IL, and New Thought Unity Center, Cincinnati, OH. For the past 12 1/2 years, he has served Unity Minneapolis, formerly Unity Christ Church in Golden Valley, MN (Minneapolis).  He enjoys 35 years of personal recovery, and the love of his life is Eddie Bahadir-Williamson. They have been together for 16 years and married for seven years.

Myrtle Fillmore Award
Gregory Guice

Rev. Guice was ordained at the Unity School for religious studies in Lee’s Summit, Missouri in the year 2000,  after which, he served as senior minister at Unity Christ Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He went on to serve as co-minister of Detroit Unity Temple with Rev. Argentina Glasgow, leaving to take the senior minister’s position at Unity of Lake Orion.  In 2012, Rev Guice returned to Detroit Unity Temple as the senior minister.
Rev. Guice has received many honors over the years.  He was recognized as one of the top ten teachers in the United States by Ebony magazine in 1988, in 1989 he was listed in “Who’s Who in Black America,” and in 2003 he was inducted into the “Martin Luther King Board of Preachers” at Morehouse College.  Twice, he has been featured in Unity’s Daily Word, and in 2005 he received the Rev. Ruth M. Mosley Award for Outstanding Achievement in Urban Ministry. He is married, with four children, and four grandchildren.   
Reverend Gregory Guice holds a bachelor of arts degree in history and sociology, and a master of arts degree in clinical psychology.

Joe Sloan

Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center, Grass Valley, Californioa, was founded by Rev. Joe Sloan and his wife Lyn and held its first worship service in March of 2000. The response from the community was so immediate that we were able, in less than a year, to meet all the requirements to qualify as an Association of Unity Churches church.

We have continued to grow in love from that time and we have helped many people live their lives more joyfully and successfully. We have an active youth education program that truly honors young people and we respect and utilize the wisdom of our seniors.

Our minister speaks from the heart of one who has experienced the world and sees himself as one with our spiritual community. Our congregation lovingly receives into its midst all who come to us. Rev. Joe Sloan served as senior minister until his retirement in June of 2011, while Lyn Sloan Continues to be part of the ministry to children.

Toni Boehm                

Toni G. Boehm is an inspirational and dynamic speaker, author, minister, certified organizational and life coach, nurse, poet, and known for her passionate teaching style and her expert facilitation of personal empowerment and transformational retreats and workshops. Boehm is retired from everyday corporate life and is in sacred service to the expansion of conscious awareness of spiritual teachings, quantum-spirituality, and the concepts underpinning organization and life-coaching.

Boehm is certified as an organizational and life coach (I.C.F.), Peace-Maker and Transitional Consultant, and as a coach for Spiritual Intelligence. As a consultant Boehm did research on the best standards of practice for ministries and her research is included in the Thriving Ministry Model, Unity Worldwide Ministries.

Teaching internationally Boehm facilitates classes and seminars on self-empowerment and transformation, prosperity, leadership skill development, and Transformation Coaching©. Boehm introduces students to the knowledge and skills necessary for living their lives from their highest innate potential. Her life work and mission is:
“I am a midwife for the birthing of the soul’s remembrance.”

Cynthia Vermillion-Foster        

Cynthia Vermillion-Foster is passionate about cultivating space for rich, authentic dialogue that supports the discovery of our interconnectedness and allows us to conspire (breathe as one) with one another in the creation of a more compassionate way of being living on this planet.

Movement and dance have played a central role in Cynthia’s life since childhood, and her first career was as a ballet dancer.  Dance is, for Cynthia, a spiritual experience, a way of allowing the Universe to express as her, and the metaphor of dance continues to inform the way she moves through life.

Cynthia met Don in 1986 and they have enjoyed a mutually supportive marriage for 27 years. They are the parents of two beautiful children – a son, Jovan and daughter, Avianna who have grown into leaders in their own right.

Cynthia and Don served as co-ministers at Unity of Greater Hamilton for 10 years.  Don continues to serve this ministry.  Cynthia has also served as Unity Canada’s Regional Consultant, was active on the Ministry Skills Team, and served as Chair of the Ethics Review System.

From July 2016 to October 2021, Cynthia served as UWM’s Director of Member Services.


Charles Fillmore Award        
David McClure

Born in Ontario in 1937, McClure was introduced to Unity tenets by his parents when he was 6 years old. He attended Ryerson University in Toronto in the late 1950s and entered Ministerial School at Unity Village, Missouri, in 1960.

His first ministry was in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was ordained in 1963. Later that year, he took a ministry job in Australia. Sailing Down Under on a freighter took more than seven months. There, he established congregations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, as well as Christ Church and Auckland, New Zealand.

He arrived in Spokane for his first ministry in 1975, staying until 1983. During that time, he married his second wife, the Rev. Donna McClure. She is a chaplain for Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Providence Holy Family Hospital, among other duties.

The couple left Spokane for ministries in Hawaii, Pennsylvania and Dallas, and also ran a bed-and-breakfast in Santa Fe during a sabbatical. They returned to Spokane in 2009, planning to retire, but David McClure was invited to resume his position as senior minister during a period of transition at the church. David retired from Unity of Spokane in 2015. David brings his own style of humor, insight, and inspiration to the work he loves so much. Currently, he is writing a book.


Myrtle Fillmore Award
Judy Grimes    

Judy Grimes is an ordained Unity minister. Currently retired, Judy has served congregations in Washington, California, Hawaii and Traverse City, Michigan.

She is ministry skills certified, a certified transition consultant and approved facilitator on
vision, mission and core values. Judy has served on numerous ministry teams for Unity Worldwide Ministries.

Patricia Bessey

Rev. Patricia Bessey is a Unity minister, Master Prosperity teacher, seminar leader, church consultant, spiritual counselor, certified Peacemaker and certified life coach.

Before accepting her position at Unity of Greater Portland, Rev. Pat served as the co-founding minister with her husband Rev. LeRoy Lowell of Christ Unity Oceanside in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They served that ministry for 10 years before coming back home to Maine.

Since her return to Maine in 2008, Rev. Pat has served as the Church Consultant for Unity Worldwide Ministries Eastern Region.

Since her ordination in 1996 she has been in active ministry, serving as a congregational minister, a seminar presenter and consultant to many Unity ministries. She volunteers with Unity Worldwide Ministries as the Chair of the Standards Team and the Credentialing Team.


Myrtle Fillmore Award            
Marilyn Muehlbach

Marilyn has a BA degree in economics from Denison University and served as minister of Unity Church of North Idaho in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, for 20 years. She was a member of the Association of Unity Churches International Board of Trustees, serving as Chair in 2008–2009. She also serves as president of the Board of Directors for the Human Rights Education Institute in Coeur d'Alene and is currently the Chair of the Board of Trustees for Unity World Headquarters.





Myrtle Fillmore Award
Susan Eng-Poole

Rev. Susan EngPoole has served the Unity movement since 1984, including co-ministry at Unity on the North Shore and senior minister of Unity of Louisville, Kentucky. Susan retired from ministry in 2013 and is spending time traveling with her husband Jack.  She is the 2014 recipient of the prestigious Myrtle Fillmore Award and chairs Unity Worldwide Ministries' Prosperity ministry team.

Tom Thorpe    

Rev. Tom Thorpe is an ordained Unity minister currently serving as the minister of Unity of Independence, MO.
To help achieve the goal of making Unity’s teachings available to “more people in more places in more ways more often,” Tom focuses on developing and presenting courses for Unity Institute’s Distance Learning programs.

Tom is the author of Through A Loving Lens: Gentle Observations About Life, Love and God, and has written for both Daily Word® and Unity Magazine®. Tom believes that because our potential for spiritual growth is infinite, there’s always value in exploring life’s challenging questions more and more deeply.

Eileen Goor

Rev Eileen Goor first became acquainted with Unity during the early1980s in central Virginia. After supporting the work of several churches as a board member and lay minister, she was called to ministerial school. Eileen was ordained in 1993. She served as founding minister for New World Unity Church in Springfield, Va., for 12 years. Eileen served on the Eastern Region board for four years and then on the board of Unity Worldwide Ministries (UWM) for four more. Both roles gave her great appreciation for the dedication of these groups to the Unity Movement. Eileen has also served on the advisory board for the Association of Global New Thought where she gained an even greater appreciation for the power New Thought teachings have in bringing peace to the planet. In addition, she served on the interdenominational board of Worshipful Work for a decade.

Eileen has a Master’s of Education, preparing her to teach from preschool special education to master’s degree students. She has always loved teaching and made that a high priority as part of her ministry. Six of her congregants have become ministers; to facilitate their preparation, she taught all of the credit courses multiple times, immersing deeply in Fillmore’s teachings. Eileen has a strong interest in Unity Institute’s goal of accreditation. She believes it will broaden Unity’s impact through expanded opportunities to offer a variety of paths to serve.

Brendalyn Batchelor

Rev. Brendalyn Batchelor, M.A., LPC, has served as Senior Minister of Unity Santa Fe, New Mexico since December 1994. She was ordained in February 2000 through the Field Licensing Program. She has a master’s degree in Counseling from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor’s in General Studies from Chaminade University of Honolulu. Prior to ministry, Brendalyn worked as an Employee Assistance Counselor, Health Case Manager, and Employee Relations Specialist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. She has extensive federal service human resources and related investigative experience which uniquely qualified her to serve for 7 years as the Chair of the Credentialed Leader/Ministry Review Team for Unity Worldwide Ministries.

Brendalyn is the Regional Representative of the South Central Region of Unity Worldwide Ministries which includes thirteen states. In this position she advices, consults, and trains regional ministries or acts as a triage agent connecting them to appropriate resources. In addition to Unity, Brendalyn’s spiritual practice includes Vipassana meditation in the Goenke tradition, and living, to the best of her ability, the spiritual principles of twelve step recovery the past thirteen years.

Duke Tufty

Reverend Duke Tufty was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and moved to the Kansas City area in the early 1980’s. He was ordained as a Unity minister in 1989 and became the associate minister to Rosemary Fillmore Rhea at The Myrtle Fillmore Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He has been the Senior Minister and CEO of Unity Temple on the Plaza for over 20 years. Duke also served as chairman of the Board of Unity School of Christianity from 2001-2010.
